Baby Grace’s Lifestyle Newborn Photos and Jessica’s Motherhood Musings
What are your must-have newborn baby items?
Newborns don’t need much! Some clothes, lots of diapers and milk. One item we love is the Snuggle Me…which is basically a pillow that keeps the baby snuggled and secure for a great night’s sleep.
Tell us about the first days of bringing your baby home, the ups and the downs
The first few nights were definitely difficult…a combination of lack of sleep, learning to care for a new baby and the challenges of breastfeeding (and through all of this your body is recovering from childbirth). On the flip side, the daytime was much easier as we were able to rest (while she was napping!) and most importantly cherish the new sight of our baby girl.
Did you bottle or breastfeed, what is your advice for new mothers?
Breastfeeding. The first few days can be tough, my nipples were cracked and bleeding…don’t get discouraged, it does get better! Remember, this is new for both you and baby.
How has having a baby changed your relationship?
Starting a family is such an adventure… seeing each other display our maternal and paternal instincts has really enriched our relationship.
What is your most cherished moment with your newborn?
There is nothing more precious than when your newborn falls asleep on your chest, listening to your heartbeat…
What most surprised you about motherhood?
It still fascinates me that we created this little human. It is the greatest gift of life and I didn’t realize I could love this much!
What was the hardest part of bringing home a new baby?
The lack of sleep! I use to enjoy a good night’s sleep so it was definitely an adjustment with the new night schedule.
Has your style changed since becoming a mom?
Kind of, everything needs to make breastfeeding easy and accessible…which means I can no longer wear half my clothes!
If you get any “me time”, how do you wind down or spend it?
Going for a walk to get some fresh air and clear the mind.
Looking back to your first days of parents, what would you tell yourself?
Hang in there, the sleeping gets better!
How do you manage to keep all of the plates spinning? What helps you juggle motherhood?
I’m currently on maternity leave which has made things easier and my husband has been a huge support.
What is your greatest joy of motherhood?
Seeing her smile at me…it’s been the most rewarding thing (so far)!
If you could give your child one piece of advice what would it be?
Be kind to one another.
Marissa was amazing! She was kind, patient and very talented. From the minute we met her, she made us feel comfortable We took several breaks for breastfeeding which helped to ensure Grace could sleep during the session. Marissa’s photos were absolutely beautiful, we were very impressed with her work and will cherish these photos forever!
