Tell us about your design process. Did you start with one central item or idea that served as your inspiration? I’ve been really inspired by neutral colors in my home lately & knew that I wanted the nursery to reflect that. I started planning the design of this room way before we were pregnant & couldn’t wait to get started on it. We began adding items to the room at the start of the 2nd trimester and the entire nursery was complete within 6 weeks!
What was the most important thing you wanted to achieve when creating this space? We chose the room in our house based off of the amount of natural light that the room gets. Natural light was very important to me because I knew that I would be taking a lot of photos in there as the years went by. I wanted to make sure the space was calming & comfortable for sleeping, yet personalized & creative for play time.
Now that the accent walls have dried and bedding is neatly tucked, what is your favorite thing about the room? I am in love with the guitar on the wall. That guitar belonged to my late grandpa who is the namesake for our son’s middle name. Other than being a special piece of decor, I hope that it sparks a love for music in our son.
What’s the first thing people notice when stepping foot into this room? I’ve gotten the response “this room could be in a magazine!” when people first see it. I think they take in the room as a whole first before zoning into specific elements. I encourage others to take the time to prepare their nursery & take those special photos before your baby shower, because after the gifts arrive the room doesn’t look as tidy as it did before (notice that I didn’t take any photos of inside the closet!) I’m glad that I took the time to photograph the nursery in all it’s glory before baby toys and messes take over! : )
If you had to remove one key item from the room, what would you part with? Can I choose the carpet? Cause I definitely choose the carpet…! The RUG I am in love with but the carpet underneath is another story. I wish there were gorgeous hardwood floors & then the room would truly be complete in my eyes.
If you could add another item to the room, what would be your first choice? I’ve never been in love with the color that the walls turned out to be. The grey is too light for my liking and I wish that it were a little darker. I told my husband that the walls would always taunt me! Other than that, I wish the closet was larger because I’m already dealing with a lack of storage and baby isn’t even here yet. 🙂
