> How has birth changed you as a woman?
> Childbirth is just the most beautiful thing in the world. Even when things don’t go as you plan, it’s still beautiful. This was my 3rd baby and I had her naturally (without pain medication) because something in me wanted to experience the fullness of what childbirth was. I wanted to know what women all over the world feel when pain meds aren’t an option. I feel like I could do anything now. It empowered me in a way that I can’t explain with words.
> What advice do you wish you had known before giving birth ( even if it’s something gross)?
> I thought that, because this was my 3rd birth, labor would go more quickly. That was not the case. This was my longest labor so it threw me for a loop. My nurses finally told me that 3rd babies have a mind of their own!
> Tell us a little about your birth story?
> As I said I was determined to have a natural labor and delivery. I was grateful to live in an area with a wonderful Nurse Midwifery practice. They really helped me prepare and really wanted to help me achieve that goal. My husband was an incredible, supportive arm for me throughout the whole process. My water broke early in the morning and my daughter was born at 8:15 am the next day. We spent about 13 hours of that time at the hospital. My sweet baby girl was born in the tub. That was not the plan, but that’s where it happened. It was absolutely beautiful.
> What are your 3 must have birth bag items? 1.The hospital had one that I used, but that birthing ball was the best thing! 2. My Bible. My husband read some to me during the early morning hours. It was very calling for me and gave me focus. 3. Good, soft, fun socks or house slippers.
> What is one thing you find beautiful about birth? The whole experience of growing a human and giving birth is just amazing. There’s no time I’ve felt closer to God than when experiencing that.
> What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant? It feels like a long road a head, but the aches and pains are temporary. The end result is your little person that you get to love on!
> What are your beauty must haves while pregnant? A pedicure is the best when your feet are aching and you want pretty toes for the stirrups.
> Kind words about your photographer? I could not be more honored to call her my friend. Christa is amazing and so professional. She is such a caring and loving, fun person, and all of those qualities shine in her work.
Raebeam Photography, based in Athens, Georgia, was founded in 2010 by Christa Wilson after many years of photographing friends and family. A self taught photographer, her passion erupted for photography after taking a beginner class in high-school, and it all went up from there. She believes photography is her gift to capture people’s energy, love, fire, and bond. Although she shoots most sessions solo, her husband, Nathan, is second shooter to the many weddings that they photograph every year. Christa uses natural light to highlight her clients’ best features, and is also experienced with artificial light sources as well. Christa and Nathan have a handsome one year old baby boy that gets to be the center of all the attention.
