In your own words, tell us about being pregnant, the mother you have become while carrying new life, and how it’s changed you.
Being pregnant was one of the most special periods of my life. Becoming the sole protector of a precious little life made me a better person. It gave me a new perspective and a greater appreciation of life.
How did you find out you were expecting?
I found out that I was expecting a call from my OB/GYN. My husband and I had a 13-month-old at the time and decided we wanted to try again. We needed help to get pregnant, so we were overjoyed by a positive pregnancy test!
How did you tell the father?
Adeline’s dad was playing with our other daughter in the backyard. I’d received the call from my doctor and sat watching them play for a minute while I absorbed the news. Our first round of fertility treatment had worked! I tried to hold off for a big unveiling but I was so surprised by the positive test that I just ran out to tell him and we all celebrated and hugged!
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
Pregnancy has made me a much stronger and confident woman. My body is powerful and can do anything!
Did you find out the gender of your baby? Is there a name picked out yet?
We found out our baby’s gender at 20 weeks. We picked her name (Adeline Lynn) towards the end of my pregnancy. I’ve always loved the name Adeline, and Lynn is my mother-in-law’s middle name. She’s been a source of great support in so many ways, including caring for my two-year-old. I appreciate her so much!
What advice do you wish you had known before getting pregnant?
I wish I had received more advice about the postpartum period of pregnancy and how to prepare for it. With my first pregnancy, recovery was a long, difficult road. I felt a bit unprepared for the recovery process. I wish someone had told me to not forget to focus on myself while caring for my little one.
What is one thing you find beautiful about being pregnant?
I love how pregnancy shows the power and strength of being a woman. It’s beautiful that pregnancy changes your body, not just for 40 weeks, but permanently. The stretch marks, everything. It’s an amazing reminder of what mothers have accomplished. Bringing a precious life into the world is a big deal!
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant?
I would tell some who’d just found out that they were pregnant to prepare for an exciting, emotional, and sometimes challenging period of life. I would tell them it is so worth it. I’d tell them to never forget to love and pamper themselves, during and after pregnancy.
What has been the hardest part of pregnancy?
The hardest part of pregnancy has been waiting to meet my little one! The last few weeks seem like an eternity!
Did you have any pregnancy cravings or aversions?
I had no food aversions during this pregnancy, but I did crave sour, chewy candy.
What are your beauty must-haves while pregnant?
My beauty must-have while being pregnant was an occasional pedicure. I couldn’t take care of (or reach) my feet as the pregnancy progressed, so this made me feel like my beauty and care routine was complete.
Do you have any favorite maternity items you couldn’t live without?
I couldn’t live without my slip-on shoes and compression stockings!
Can you share with our mommies where you purchased the items you wore for your maternity session?
The dresses from my maternity session were purchased from Sew Trendy Accessories. Use Blmommy17 code for 15% off your purchase
Tell us about your Maternity Photos session and what the images mean to you.
My photographer, Cat Vreeke, was amazing. She has such a great eye and knows how to capture the most beautiful aspects of any scenery or environment. It was also great working with Laurel from Hair and Makeup by Laurel. She made me look and feel fabulous. They made the photo session and preparation so special and fun. The pictures made me feel beautiful in a way I’ve never felt before. I love my pregnant self more than ever.

From the photographer:
This session blew me away. Literally – it was so insanely windy on the water that day. We normally don’t tend to have crashing waves out here because we’re protected by several islands, particularly Vancouver Island.but it made for some of the most wonderful images! You’d never know, but Leilonie’s hair started out in perfect tiny curls! We were laughing so much at how drastically her hair changed and I was so glad that she was in love with it the whole time. Even went out for dinner that night with her windswept locks. Leilonie was much further along than I normally shoot at 37 weeks, but carried her pregnancy so much in front you wouldn’t have known. She frequently made jokes about pretending to steal a soccer ball from a sporting goods shop she was so perfectly round and all up front. I loved this beautiful session with my beautiful friend and neighbor. As with all my sessions, it was so relaxed and fun and I instantly wanted to do it again.
I’m a busy stay-at-home mama of two toddlers, and like so many I often feel like that’s all that I am. So I find myself through photography. I love the creativity it can bring out and the joy I have when a client who’s been feeling down on their body sees their images and is just wowed. Every woman should feel amazing, especially when she’s been creating life within her. I want to help them see just how beautiful they are.
