Mother’s Name: Smita Ian Schworer
How has motherhood changed you as a woman?
Motherhood has helped me to grow as a person and has been the most rewarding and challenging job I’ve had to date. The simplest things like blowing bubbles or watching dogs chase their toys is so much sweeter because I get to experience it through my daughter’s eyes.
Tell us a little about your family?
My husband and I have been married for six years and have a 15 month old little girl. It’s hard to imagine what life was like before her!
What is one family tradition you have raised your children with?
Our daughter is only 15 months old but both my husband and I want to instill the importance of giving back. When she was seven months old we took her on her fist volunteer job putting together relief kits for field workers in Africa. She was too young to understand what was going on but we plan to have family volunteer days and incorporate little ways she can give back as she gets old enough to understand what that means.
Favorite family vacation?
We took our daughter to Hawaii last summer and it was her first time in a pool and at the beach. We had so much fun playing on the beach and just enjoying island life together.
What advice would you give new mothers about raising children?
There is no “one size fits all” manual for raising children. Cut yourself some slack and take time to be present and enjoy the moment, even if you feel like you may want to pull your hair out at times! These moments are so precious and babies are only babies for a little while. Relish it!
What are your beauty must-haves as a mom?
For me, a good moisturizer, some blush and lip gloss can go a long way!
Words about your photographer?
Our photographer is a family friend and was such a joy to work with. She made sure we were all comfortable and was patient when our daughter had plans that didn’t always include posing for pictures! She captured so many priceless moments for our family!
I am a Portland-based natural light photographer, specializing in newborn, family, and maternity portraits.
With a Masters in Fine Arts, I am a lover of Art in its various forms and trained in Art History. I discovered my love for photography when we moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest in 2008, a place we now call ‘home’. Photography allows me to combine all my creative skills and abilities into creating a piece of art, capturing a piece of history and creating something beautiful and priceless for my clients. I believe in capturing authentic moments (not just the smiley ones) and am passionate about creating art featuring the people I photograph.
Each time a client looks at a picture that makes them smile, each time a picture brings back those memories that melt our hearts and catches our breath, I am rewarded and know it was time well spent and my skills and abilities well used.
It is an honor to be let into people’s lives and capture interactions that make for endearing memories, encase fleeting life moments to make them last a lifetime and tell stories through pictures.
