In your own words, please tell us about your story and what happened that lead you to now expecting your rainbow baby.
On August 16, 2017 we lost our baby girl, Maya Malia, to a rare medical condition called Holoprosencephaly also known of HPE. At my 20 week check up we discovered she had a cleft lip and palate right in the middle. We got a second opinion in UCLA and discovered due to the cleft lip being in the middle it affected her brain. I was almost 8 months pregnant with Maya when she passed away in my womb. She was a stillborn baby.
How did you find out you were expecting?
I found out I was expecting with my rainbow baby end of January with a home pregnancy test and confirmed in February by the doctor
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
pregnancy changed me as a woman because it’s something that I never thought would happen because as a teenager I suffered from heavy and painful menstrual cycles and when I was 21 I had an ovarian cysts rupture and the doctor told me I only had 10% chance on having any kids. God had a different plan for me, I have a 3-year-old daughter, angel baby, and now my rainbow baby
What has been the hardest part of pregnancy?
The hardest part of my pregnancy is grieving for my lost baby and not giving my body time to heal.
What is one thing you find beautiful about being pregnant?
The most beautiful thing about pregnancy is knowing you have a little human in your belly and feeling them move makes everything worth it.
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant?
I would like to tell someone who is having a rainbow baby that I know it’s hard and you might be thinking the worse like would it happen again, double thinking everything you do to keep the baby safe, and those feelings will never go away but just know everything will be okay, you got this!
