Dawn was thirty-three weeks pregnant with her second son and planned her maternity session with us. She delivered her first son at thirty-three weeks and had been experiencing contractions. She prepared for her session by having her hair and makeup done and coordinating outfits with her husband and son. Upon arriving at our agreed upon location, it began to rain, and a huge storm settled in across the river. At this point, in spite of the weather, we could not reschedule due to the lingering threat of early labor. We decided to move forward with the session and waited until the rain stopped. The normally calm and serene river was filled with waves and the sky changed colors quickly. The winds were strong and cool which created a beautiful light fog that gently rose from the water. As the storm settled and blew by, the sun began to set. The sky filled with beautiful pink and purple clouds and was the perfect backdrop for the end of this session. – Words from the photographer
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER: Krista Darrah-Spillman of Loving Memories Photography & Design, LLC
Hello!! I’m Krista, wife to Greg, mommy of six kiddos from 2-21, and owner of Loving Memories Photography! I am a curly haired, filter-less, and fun ball of fire! My family has owned and operated a garage/towing service/junk yard for nearly forty years in this area, so I grew up immersed in the craziness that is a family run business! I love my family, but the family business wasn’t for me! I decided that I wanted to go to college, and have held various positions in companies around the area. I had the business experience down… but unlike most photographers, I did not have a camera in my hand since the age of three. As a matter of fact, I did not purchase my first DLSR until about ten years ago! At the time I was working for a large corporation in a high stress, very technical position as a project manager and photography became therapy for my day job! I began reading books and watching YouTube videos to learn more about the technical parts of photography. I found it absolutely fascinating, and it quickly consumed my free time. Social media was really becoming more mainstream at the time and friends and family began to ask for me to capture their images, and before I knew it, I was a full-time photographer. The transition seemed so fast and looking back, I don’t remember many of details of this journey. I still find time to take as many in-person and online seminars, training courses, and read as much as I can about photography! I love experimenting with light and I think I have finally found my style! I love deep, rich colors and natural editing., and while I enjoy photographing everything, I am always asked what my favorite sessions are! I always answer…weddings and newborns! I love the chaos of weddings. I think my project management background helps me stay organized and stress-free during weddings, and being a mommy of six, I have a few tricks to help with newborns! Throughout the last few years, my work has won a few awards and has been published in magazines and blogs, which has been really exciting for me!
Recently I was able to expand the team at Loving Memories, and I feel like I am finally finding a balance with my personal and professional life! My personal life is super swamped with kids, activities, tons of laundry and crazy schedules. I even have found a way to enjoy a few moments to myself! I have revisited my love of reading mystery novels and figured out that I enjoy pink fizzy wine and lots of coffee!!!! I’m also a firm believer that everything is better with bacon, butter, chocolate or cheese!
It’s my goal to capture your memories in a fun, stress-free way, and treat you and your family as I would want my children to be treated!
