Minty green sagebrush, a beautiful family, & an evening sky that wanted to show off made for a perfect family session. On a fickle summer evening, we played & I snapped photos until thunder rolled in and we watched the Idaho valley below us become drenched in rain.
My approach to family sessions is to always respect the relationships and dynmaics that are already in place. My job is to make sure they feel completely comfortable and free while I gently guide them through scenes. This means, instead of saying “everyone look at the camera and say cheese!” I’m saying things to prompt movement and connection like “kids, let’s find out how ticklish mom is!”. I keep parents calm and happy by taking each child at a time on a little “walk” where we trade funny stories, and I can capture them while they interact with their environment. In this session, the brother and sister played, danced, argued, and chased each other all over the hill-side.? We listened to the Disney Pandora station playing on my phone in my back pocket and I took turns focusing on each child, then mom, then the family together. It was an awesome evening and I can’t wait to see their beautiful photos? displayed in their home!
