Maria Pokluda has been serving expecting families in a number of capacities for over a decade. She started Great Expectations Birth in 2007 which quickly became one of the top names in doula and pregnancy-related services in the Dallas and Fort Worth area.  In fact, she has been voted Best Doula in North Texas every year from 2012 through 2016.

Great Expectations Birth is a full-service doula agency helping families in the DFW area find the perfect doula and other childbirth preparation providers to support them during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Maria uses her broad experience and professional network to match families with a doula that they are going to love and that will help them have an amazing birth…no matter what that looks like for them. Maria aims to delight with her service and loves offering a modern spin to the age-old act of giving birth. She has served thousands of expecting families through Great Expectations.

While leading Great Expectations Birth, Maria developed a reputation for being helpful to others as they worked for the success in their birth business. At first it was just coffee dates here and there with other business owners and entrepreneurs, but it quickly moved into more formal mentorship programs for birth workers. Maria co-created and owns BEST Training, a national doula training program, that teaches doula and professional skills to new doulas and is an industry leader in the field. She also leads an international professional group, Love What You Doula, that is enjoyed by thousands of birth workers across the globe.

Maria has an undergraduate degree in Political Science and a Masters in Constitutional Law.  She has worked as a lobbyist in DC and also in non-profit management. She lives in the suburbs of Dallas with her patient husband and four busy kids.
