It was 4am when I woke up to a gush. I stood up when I noticed something was wrong. My water broke! I was so excited, nervous, scared, but oh so happy. I was finally going to meet my daughter. Rushed to the hospital and as soon as I got there I was so scared, scared of the pain! Was in labor and pain for hours, but I knew everything was going to be worth it at the end once I see that beautiful face of my baby. 4pm arrived and my daughter finally came into this crazy world. Addison Grace 7lbs 11oz. Couldn’t believe she came out of me! I started crying when everyone was saying “aww, she’s cute”, “good job Nancy”.
Holding and hearing my daughter cry for the first time was amazing! I was happy. I was in love! I do have to admit, it felt weird holding her although she’s my second, but I am proud of my beautiful creation!
My first day at home was so tiring. Wasn’t able to sleep at the hospital. Being at home was so much comfortable. Was able to eat good and rest while my family helped with the baby.
Post partum advice for women getting ready for a new baby is to sleep while baby is sleeping. Really do take advantage of the time to sleep. Leave the dirty dishes for hubby or for later. Most important thing is to be well rested. My daughter would wake up at every hour. Taking naps during the day helped me a lot! Also, eat good and stay hydrated. I remember drinking at least 5-6 water bottles a day. I wanted to have good milk supply for my baby. Accept offers of help. Raising a baby is not easy. It is really hard and can get exhausting. Ask for help when needed. It’s okay to cry and talk to someone.
I wish I knew baby blues were common. It’s okay to feel sad. No one said raising a baby would be so easy. A baby does not come with instructions. Being a mother is a hard job. A lot of mothers go through postpartum depression/ anxiety. Do not think it is embarrassing. Do let it be known. I would be feeling low a lot of times because my baby would wake up every hour and I just remember being so tired. I just wanted to cry! Talking about it is better so you can get the help from your loved ones so you can rest and feel much better.
I believe breastfeeding is the most beautiful thing about being a new mother. The bond between you and your child is the best! When my daughter stares at me while nursing, it just melts my heart. You get this proud feeling knowing that your baby is getting your milk to grow healthy and strong. Baby will also have fewer health problems than others who aren’t breast fed.
Vanessa, my photographer, was amazing. So friendly, outgoing, and oh so patient. My baby was hungry and crying, and she wouldn’t make me feel rushed. She let me take my time to nurse my daughter. Vanessa was with a big smile on her face throughout the session. She made me feel comfortable and beautiful.
Hello, my name is Vanessa and I am the proud owner of Vanessa Hicks Photography! I am a 30 year old Navy Veteran, military spouse, mother to my amazing 2 daughters, a wonderful step daughter
, and a lover of running and EVERYTHING Disney! I grew up in Hawaii until I was 13 years old, which is where my love for the beach comes from. Everything about the beach and ocean relaxes me- the smell, the calmness, and the fact that with each new wave, it’s like the sand is wiped clean for a moment, and all is right in the world!
Photography is so much more that a passion for me. While I grew up in paradise, my childhood was anything but. My parents were too busy doing other things instead of documenting our lives, and when my father passed away several years ago, I was only left with a handful of pictures. So when my daughters were born, was when I first started documenting and truly enjoying photography.
It wasn’t until one day I walked into my corporate job, a week before my husband was set to deploy for a year, and was told that my department was being eliminated, that I decided to take on photography full time. I am so much happier now! I love capturing families and weddings. I get to help others do what I wish I had growing up, documenting their legacy. I live by the motto that tomorrow is not promised to anyone, so NOW is the time to document your memories! I truly believe that my clients see that passion and drive in me with every single shoot I do!
