How has being a mother to your birthday boy/girl changed you as a woman?
Charlotte has taught me to enjoy every moment, big or small. She’s my last of three and I am soaking in every ounce of it.
What advice do you wish you give a new mom about the first year?
I would try to remind moms to not worry about the small things. With my first born I focused on every milestone and compared so much to others. With Charlotte, I have just tried to enjoy it and not worry about every little detail.
Tell us a little about your birthday girl/boy?
Charlotte Grace was born in San Diego. Our family was stationed out there at the time. She was our surprise baby and is just a blessing to our family. At 2 months old we moved across the country, back home to North Carolina. Our entire family loves to be able to watch her grow. She loves to talk to everyone she sees, one day it will all make sense! She’s such a joy to be around.
What was the theme and inspiration for your party?
I chose to do a princess theme. Since Princess Charlotte was born not long after our Charlotte we decided to go with a “Charlotte the First” princess theme. I chose to incorporate pink and gold into the decor. Our photo shoot with Jamie was scheduled a few weeks prior so I could show off our beautiful portraits at her party.
What are some of your must have items for a party?
I found some truly adorable pink and gold decorations from Mud Pie. I also had a crown, chunky necklace, outfit and cake made for the occasion. For the photo shoot I wanted to keep it simple and we just incorporated balloons and the beautiful park around us.
Were there any vendors involved in the party ( i.e. cake, invitations, decor, entertainment)?
Our cake was made by Jenn’s Sugarlicious Bakery in Gastonia, NC. It was gorgeous and delicious, even though Miss Charlotte refused to touch her smash cake. I guess she doesn’t like to get dirty yet. We also had precious princess cookies made for us by Southern Sugar Bakery. They shipped them to us from Raleigh and were just perfect. Her tutu ensemble was created by The Velvet Buttercup, crown by Kutiebowtuties, necklace by Prettiest Prop Shop and matching hairbow by The Ruffled Cupcake. Our portrait dress was made by Well Dressed Wolf. During our photo shoot, Jamie actually made our smash cake. It was all just perfect!
What is one thing you wish you had not included at the party?
We just had a small family gathering so I don’t think there is anything I have regret over.
And one thing you wish you had added to the party?
I really do feel as though it all went as planned and was just perfect for a first birthday.
What is one thing you find beautiful about being a mother?
With all three of my children if they need hugs, love or that extra push I’m the one there helping them however they need me. I’m so grateful to be a mother and love watching them grow. Raising these precious babies is such a beautiful thing.
What are your beauty must haves as a mommy?
A great face lotion! I could not live without my daywear face moisturizer by Estee Lauder. A great eyeliner also is important to me, I never leave the house without it. I use Cliniques eye pencil.
Kind words about your photographer?
Jamie is such a joy to work with. She was just amazing with Charlotte. She made her feel so comfortable and free. Jamie wasn’t afraid to work with her and play with her, which I feel is so important when trying to capture great images. She is also very responsive and always makes sure you have the information you need. Every moment she captured was amazing. I could not be more pleased with our photos and can’t wait to have her photograph our family again.
I’m a portrait and event photographer based out of Charlotte, NC. I’m also blessed with two little munchkins who fill my days with all the activity and joy that 2 under 2 inspire!
To me, the best photography sessions tell a beautiful and authentic story. Whether its the first hours with a newborn, a special birthday, the annual family pictures, a ‘day in the life’, or the delicious anticipation right before a walk down the aisle, my eye is always looking for the light, the emotion, and the special magic that happens when people forget the camera and just become fully present in the moment.
My goal is to always give families a great memory, and images that reflect their hearts, as well as their loved ones.
