From the Mommy:
I am a planner at heart so I tried to plan everything ahead of time. I had my bags packed for the hospital months before my due date, I read EVERYTHING on “What to Expect When Expecting”, and even bought waterproof makeup so I would look good for hospital pictures! What I didn’t plan for was the unexpected and the fact that babies have their own schedule!
I was due on Sunday, March 8, 2015 and didn’t go in to labor until Thursday, March 12, 2015. I thought I would go early but boy was I wrong! We went to the hospital at 3am on Friday, March 13, 2015 and actually got sent home because I was not dilated enough. I continued to labor at home and finally went back to the hospital at9am. I was admitted and continued to labor through my contractions (a feeling I will never forget!). I walked the hospital halls until I couldn’t walk anymore. I thought I handled pain well but I only got to 3 centimeters dilated before I couldn’t take it any longer and demanded an epidural!
That’s when the real “waiting” began…I watched hours of HGTV and The Food Network channel while I continued to labor. My contractions slowed down so the doctors put me on pitosin. I got to 8 centimeters dilated! I was getting very anxious that I was going to have to push soon but then everything halted…I couldn’t dilate anymore and I was absolutely exhausted. We decided to proceed with a c-section as I was overly ready to meet our little princess!
After 33 hours of labor, lots of waiting and medication, Avery Elizabeth Wilburn was born at 3:57am on Saturday, 3/14/15! Pie day! She was the sweetest most precious thing ever!
I’m not sure that motherhood has changed me too much. I already had a fur baby, Harley, which was very much like my first child! Avery does, however take up more of my time but it is very much welcomed! We love her so much and happy that she joined our family.
If you are able to breastfeed, don’t give up! It’s very tough at first but it has so many benefits! It requires a lot of patience and can be painful at times but it is best for your child and YOU! I have been able to bond with Avery and it also helps me lose weight too!
All of the changes that a woman’s body goes through to bring such a beautiful package in to this world! Many people ask me “wouldn’t you do it all over again?” And while I am not ready quite yet, the answer is absolutely!
