What a better way to celebrate a new life than with newborn photos taken right in your home? We adore this family lifestyle newborn session by dKin Photography this morning and know you will want to curl up with a cup of coffee and soak in each image.
Motherhood has made me become much more confident. Having to instill values into your own children definitely forces you to decide who you are and what you believe in. It also has made me become much more accepting and appreciative of the different ways women are raising their children. Our family came on fast and furious! Our oldest child is 4, the middle 3 and the baby is 16 months. And we recently found out we are expecting a (final!) baby in July. I stay home with our kids, bulldog and 4 chickens. Our favorite family vacations are usually camping. We love to camp on the beach at Assateague and hope to add a few new places this spring and summer.
The advice I would give new mothers is to figure out what works for you and stick with it. I feel like some women go crazy trying to keep up with what they are “supposed” to be doing versus doing what’s right for their own family. You will be the best mother for YOUR child so don’t let anyone try to tell you otherwise. Also, having a support circle is extremely important. Finding other mamas who are on a similar path is extremely refreshing when you are in the baby raising trenches. My beauty items? HA! I would say sleep but there’s not much of that for moms, I love coconut oil. I use it on my hair, on my teeth, as a moisturizer, the list is endless. Also, I love anything by Bare Escentuals. Their Complexion Rescue I use daily. OH! and lots and lots of water!
Our photographer is a family friend who has now done 2 maternity shoots and several family function shoots for us. I love that she knows my children personally and is able to capture moments that perfectly express their personalities. I also am so appreciative that she doesn’t ask us to do anything other than be ourselves and she still makes us all look presentable!
Baby Hazel’s Newborn Photos by dKin Photography
I was born on November 26th, 1984 in a very, very small town of about 300 at that time. My parents decided that it was a good idea to name me after soap opera stars; however, I don’t know how true that is… I’m the second in line out of 4 siblings, and I believe that has a lot to do with my creativity.
I graduated from Wesley College in 2006 with a degree in Psychology. While in college I took as many art classes as possible. I also worked for my uncle’s photography business for several years. It was a great experience to travel from being an editor to a photographer’s assistant. The things I really liked to photograph were detail shots, which are always so much fun to do!
Currently, I am pursuing my love for photography while also working at my daughter’s school. It’s always a great feeling to know that your child is so close to you. I attribute much of her grace, confidence, and independence to her Montessori education.
dKin Photography never really had an establishment date because it was something that I was always doing or recreating. My business is named after my daughter, Drue Kinley. I really became much more passionate about the art after giving birth to her.
Here I am, enjoying every second of it! I’m working really hard to build up my business, and I think things are really positive. I know that it is me who has to take my business where I want it to go. I plan to do just that.
