“Giving birth should be your greatest achievement not your greatest fear.” ~ Jane Weideman
I have been best friends with Andrea since preschool. I have never experienced a birth before and was so excited to capture Andrea & Ryan’s arrival of their baby boy. It was a long 28 hour labor. Andrea and Ryan got to the hospital early on Saturday but got sent home for a bit. They returned later that afternoon and were admitted. Andrea was really wanting to do a natural birth and had been talking about it for so long. She made it all the way to 6.5cm and was screaming some of the worst screams I have ever heard. By that point she needed an epidural. Which was the best decision since he didn’t arrive until Sunday morning. The hospital was great and kept her all in the same room. Before the epidural she was in their spa room and able to walk around. After the epidural which was about 9pm she was able to sleep and rest, so were the rest of us. She had her boyfriend Ryan there, Mom and sister, always by her side. The nurse would do their routine checks every hour and keep an eye on her and the baby. At 4:30am she came in again to check Andrea and the baby was crowning! She was able to labor down and the baby was right there. They doctor came flying in, Andrea asked for a mirror (which there was barely any time!). The doctor was pregnant herself and due in about a month. All the family surround Andrea and the doctor said I want you to push very lightly. Andrea did 3 pushes…that’s it. Head, head, shoulders…there he was! At that moment Andrea and Ryan agreed on the name Vincent. Andrea’s father passed away a couple years ago so his middle name is John to honor him. Vincent John Abdulla born at 4:49 on November 9th. I love how you can see every single emotion written all over Andrea’s face when they put Vincent on her chest. Everyone was in tears, Ryan’s Mom came in and I got some great shots of the Grandmother’s in awe of their new, beautiful, grandson! 7lbs 5oz and the perfect blend of Andrea and Ryan. Andrea had over an hour of skin to skin time and he was already breastfeeding like a champ. I love capturing those first few moments for them! What an amazing day and it started off with an amazing sunrise right after he was born!
