My due date was February 27th 2016, but our beautiful baby girl was born February 17th at 8lbs, 21 inch.
How did you find out you were expecting?
I was visiting my home country of The Netherlands with my first daughter, but without my husband when I found out. I wasn’t feeling well and recognized the symptoms from my first pregnancy so I took a test. Which obviously came out positive.
How did you tell the father?
I was going to be in The Netherlands for 2 months, so there was no way I was going to be able to tell him in person. But the pregnancy came as a surprise to me so I couldn’t wait to tell him as soon as I found out. I couldn’t reach him though, due to being in different time zones, so I actually sent him a Facebook message to get it off my chest! He called me as soon as he read it and seemed a lot less freaked out than I was, haha.
Did you find out the gender of your baby?
We did, but we asked the ultrasound technician to put the result in a sealed envelope. We got married when I was 5 months pregnant and asked the baker to color the icing on the inside of our wedding cake pink or blue. So when we cut the cake we, together with our guests, found out we were expecting another girl.
Is there a name picked out yet?
Her name wasn’t decided on until she was a couple hours old because we couldn’t agree on anything. My husband actually held my phone hostage after the delivery and I couldn’t have it to inform my friends of her birth until we had picked a name. He actually agreed on my favorite in the end and I could finally share the happy news of the birth of India Rose!
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
I think pregnancy and to a greater extend motherhood have made me more empathetic to other moms. I had a lot of preconceived notions, ideas and judgements towards it that I’ve definitely had to reconsider since going through it myself.
What advice do you wish you had known before getting pregnant (even if it’s something gross)?
Well, since “something gross” is mentioned specifically.. Oh the hemorrhoids.. Try to prevent them as much as you can as opposed to treat them. Because of that they were much less of an issue in my second pregnancy. Being able to sit comfortably is taken for granted!
What is one thing you find beautiful about being pregnant?
When I was pregnant with my first, I loved learning about how a baby grows and all the changes my body went through. This time round it wasn’t new for me anymore, but it will never cease to amaze me what the female body is capable of!
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant?
Congratulations! Enjoy it as much as you can and don’t worry too much. It’s truly a wonderful, enriching and magical experience.
What are your beauty must-haves while pregnant?
Mine were no different from my normal products, but I did have some bad breakouts every now and then, so taking care of my skin was even more important than usual.
Can you share with our mommies where you purchased the items you wore for your maternity session?
They were provided by my wonderful photographer.
Kind words about your photographer?
Vanessa was amazing at directing me and making me feel comfortable as well as making it a fun experience. And I think the pictures speak for her skill and talent! I’d recommend her to anyone!
