Pregnancy Musings from the mother-to-be: From a pea to a melon, something so small that transforms into something so impeccable. Something so small that will begin to show you how big love really is and the germaphobe you truly are. Something so small that will make you rethink your sanity but something that realizes your purpose with just a tiny grin. You learn to become vulnerable when the days become tough. Your life becomes its fullest. You learn to love someone else more than you love yourself. This baby girl has taught us how to love with a love that is more than love – Chrystena S.
How did you find out you were expecting?
My husband and I were visiting back home in Arkansas for Christmas, soaking up our holidays with the ones we love the most. I quickly realized my body felt a bit “off”. I was fatigued and sore, along with nauseous and terribly moody. My sister in law suggested that my husband and I should take a pregnancy test on Christmas night. I giggled and thought “there is no way!”. I have a 30% chance of ever carrying a baby, how would we be the lucky ones? We ran to the closest Walgreens, grabbed a test and hurried home to something we never expected. Clear as day, two tiny pink lines.. “pregnant.” Talk about a Christmas Miracle.
How did you tell the father?
Andrew and I are extremely close, we took the test together!
Did you find out the gender of your baby? Is there a name picked out yet?
Oh my goodness, we were on cloud nine about finding out our baby’s gender! We even went to a sneak-a-peek clinic and paid money to find out our baby’s gender a month early!
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
Pregnancy is hard. Growing a tiny human in your tinier belly is even harder. A woman’s body is the ultimate giver of life. I could never say anything negative about my body after I have felt the dancing of life inside of my womb. God blessed my body with a greater purpose.
What advice do you wish you had known before getting pregnant (even if it’s something gross)?
Instead of wishing away the ten months of overtime your body goes through, cherish every moment and realize that you are assisting God in creating a miracle.
What is one thing you find beautiful about being pregnant?
You bring a life into this world. What is more incredible than that?
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant?
As I stated before, pregnancy is hard. Your body completely morphs into a different version of yourself and it will take a toll on you. But with all of the struggle, comes the biggest reward. You were hand-picked to be a mom and there’s no bigger blessing.
What has been the hardest part of pregnancy?
I personally had my own health issues before pregnancy and carrying a baby amplified everything. I went in for a blood transfusion at 38 weeks and my baby’s growth was in question. Doctors nor my husband and I knew if our baby was growing properly due to my body’s limitations. Three days before my transfusion, my OBGYN decided to do an anatomy scan for a growth timeline. Day by day until that ultrasound, I beat myself up and blamed myself, thinking of the worst. When the day came that I would see my baby on a screen in black white, to determine if my body was providing her with everything she needed to survive, I was a walking disaster. I went in not knowing a thing. I was suffering from my own dangers but that never crossed my mind, because questions were unanswered about my baby. God blessed our little family and our baby girl was still proceeding to grow properly. In fact, she was a little chunk!
Did you have any pregnancy cravings or aversions?
I ate pizza every single day the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy.
What are your beauty must-haves while pregnant?
Loads of brightening face masks and dry shampoo!
Do you have any favorite maternity items you couldn’t live without?
Seamless bras and the Honest Co. belly balm!
Can you share with our mommies where you purchased the items you wore for your maternity session?
Pink Blush & Amazon

Katie is incredible! We reached out to her around Thanksgiving of last year to do a few photos for Christmas cards. We loved her work so much that she has done all of our photos since! My husband and I recently moved to Georgia a little over a year ago. We knew we wanted something different and “bright”. We decided to soak up what Georgia has to offer that our hometown does not!
MEET THE PHOTOGRAPHER
My name is Katie Ives and I am the photographer behind Katherine Ives Photography. I revel in the amazingness that is coastal Georgia and can’t believe I get to call this place home. What a perfect setting to raise my family and to shoot client portraits. I chose to specialize in babies, bellies, kids and families because, well, that’s where it’s at for me. I get my inspiration from a child’s giggle and toothless grin. I have two children of my own – Olivia Rose and Emaline Louise. They are at times worthy opponents, challenging mess makers and inconsolable lumps of tears. And then in an instant they transform into joyous adventurers enthralled by new experiences. I see and feel the love in their kind, precious hearts. They taught me how important it is to document their life journey.
