What was your Due Date? Oct. 27, 2015
How did you find out you were expecting?
I knew something was up when I started crying at a Kid President video at work. I’m usually not an overly-emotional person, so that was very out of character for me. I took the test the next morning and it was positive!
How did you tell the father?
We found out on Valentine’s Day. We had originally discussed not getting each other presents, but when I saw the positive test I knew I had to do something. I convinced my husband that we should get each other small gifts at a book store. That night when we exchanged gifts, he game me a sketch book and colored pencils. I gave him a book about being a dad. That’s when I told him the good news!
Did you find out the gender of your baby or keep it a surprise?
We found out. I was so happy to be able to call her by her name instead of just “it” or “the baby.”
Did you pick a name early on?
Yes! We had a boy name and girl name picked out before we found out the gender. My daughter’s first name is my middle name and her middle name is my mother’s middle name. My husband suggested we use my middle name for a girl. We love keeping names in the family.
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
It’s just added a whole new dimension to my life. I am still me — for the most part, my likes and dislikes have remained the same. But now there is a whole new part of my life I get to learn and grow in.
What advice do you wish you had known before getting pregnant (even if it’s something gross)?
You can plan all you want, but your pregnancy/labor may not go as planned, and that’s OK. I expected to eat healthy at the beginning of my pregnancy but literally the only things I could keep down for a while were ginger ale, pasta and Ramen noodles. I wanted a natural birth but ended up needing a C-section because she wasn’t going to come out naturally. Don’t beat yourself up if it doesn’t go as planned. Do your best to stay healthy, take your prenatal vitamins and love that child. That’s what’s important.
What is one thing you find beautiful about being pregnant?
Not only was I close to my unborn child when I was pregnant, but I grew closer to my husband. It was so beautiful to see my little family grow both in numbers and in love.
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant? Congratulations!
Pregnancy is unlike anything you will ever go through. It is amazing to literally feel a child growing inside you. Write in a journal, take photos and cherish every moment.
What are your beauty must-haves while pregnant?
Epsom salt for baths and foot soaks! I loved taking relaxing baths, and when my feet swelled up my husband would make foot soaks for me.
Can you share with our mommies where you purchased the items you wore for your maternity session?
I bought the dress at Kohls. It was not in the maternity section, so I can still wear it if I want!
Words about your photographer?
Emily and Josh of Simply Sykes Photography were wonderful. Our photo session happened right at the beginning of the “I feel like a whale” part of my pregnancy, and they made me feel beautiful again. The shoot was relaxed and fun, and the resulting photos were gorgeous. We will treasure those photos forever.
