Newborn Motherhood Musings with Cortni and Jessica Lynn Photography
What does motherhood mean to you?
Providing, protecting, and guiding for the love of my life. Motherhood is the best job in the world. It’s loving a human being more than yourself, it’s teaching and bringing joy into a little life. Motherhood is beyond words, it’s a feeling, action, and life that I would never trade.
What are your must-have newborn baby items?
Rock and play, different brands of diapers (your baby may have an allergy), and many many outfits!
Tell us about the first days of bringing your baby home, the ups and the downs.
The ups would have to be the high you get just staring at the being you just created and brought into this life, not being able to fall asleep because of your so excited and you can’t get enough of them, and getting into a routine for you and baby. The downs.. in the same sense lack of sleep, an extra load of laundry a day, and too many visitors!
Did you bottle or breastfeed, what is your advice for new mothers?
Breastfeeding currently, my advice would be don’t get discouraged! Your baby is learning and so are you, breastfeeding is amazing and I love every minute of it.
How has having a baby changed your relationship?
Our relationship has changed drastically! We are more considerate and compassionate towards each other. Bringing a life in this world and knowing that his life depends on us brought a different kind of light into our lives.
What is your most cherished moment with your newborn?
The moment he was placed on my chest after he was born, I’ll never forget the feeling that was brought over me. It was so overpowering and the entire room disappeared except him and I, I have never felt a feeling that strong in my entire life.
What most surprised you about motherhood?
That it comes so natural, you panic and over think your entire pregnancy. I never thought that it would come so natural to me as it did, it’s truly amazing.
What was the hardest part of bringing home a new baby?
The unknown. At the hospital, you can hit a button and ask a question but at home, it’s all you and your partner and that can be overwhelming but having support and reassurance from family members make it so easy.
Has your style changed since becoming a mom?
I don’t think so, maybe more of a relaxed style now. Getting dolled up isn’t a priority as much now.
If you get any “me time”, how do you wind down or spend it?
I spend it, a bath, painting my nails, catching up on housework, or just doing my hair. I’m a very active person so I tend to get a little stir crazy being inside all day so I take advantage of me time!
Looking back to your first days of parents, what would you tell yourself?
Relax!!! Be proud of the life you just brought into this world, you are doing a perfect job! I would also tell myself to tell others to respect the first couple of days for mom, dad, and baby. Rest and taking the entire experience in is most important at this time, not so many visitors and a ton of stimulation for the baby, he needs his rest too.
How do you manage to keep all of the plates spinning? What helps you juggle motherhood?
Being on maternity leave right now it is easy to juggle motherhood so I can’t say that I know the full effect of working full time and being a mom. However, I know that I have a ton of support from family and my boyfriend is very hands on as well so I know we will all do just fine once I go back to work.
What is your greatest joy of motherhood?
I think the greatest joy is knowing that you brought a beautiful life into this world and that there are so many things to look forward to! Watching my child grow and learn is absolutely amazing!
If you could give your child one piece of advice what would it be?
live every day with a full heart, a clear mind, and with a happy soul.
Words from Cortni about her photography session with Jessica Lynn Photography;
Jess is amazing! I have started shooting with Jess since the beginning of her career and I wouldn’t have it any other way. She captures the most stunning photos and brings your dreams to life. I know every shoot we do I will cry once I look at the images she captures, it is memories that I will forever hold close to my heart. Jess always makes me and my family so comfortable and the shoots are always easy for us. I cannot thank her enough for all that she has done, she is absolutely amazing.
