Stunning and Passionate Maternity Session
by Bethanne Arthur
Due Date? April 17th
How did you find out you were expecting?
After a week or so of feeling nauseous every afternoon and about 5 pregnancy tests, I finally believed it!
How did you tell the father?
I woke him up in the morning and showed him the test. I had taken several and we kept thinking our eyes were playing tricks on us and could barely see a line, so I finally got a digital test and woke him up to it clearly saying PREGNANT. We were so thrilled and could barely believe it!
Did you find out the gender of your baby?
Yes. I always admire people who have the patience to let it be a surprise, but Justin and I are such planners we couldn’t wait to know. We scheduled an ultrasound to find out the gender when my mom was visiting from Florida so that she could be a part of it. A few days later, we did a gender reveal with our family and close friends and found out we were having a baby boy! We were both absolutely convinced we were having a girl, so we were completely surprised and overjoyed!
Is there a name picked out yet? Jennings Thatcher Jackson
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
Completely! I have never been happier, and I am constantly amazed at what our bodies can do. The journey of trying for a baby and becoming pregnant has given me such an appreciation of the process, it is truly the greatest blessing. I have been so surprised at how wonderful I’ve felt, and just knowing that there is a little bundle of joy growing in there gives me the motivation to take the best care of myself that I possibly can.
What advice do you wish you had known before getting pregnant (even if it’s something gross)?
I wish someone had told me about the pregnancy insomnia! For someone like me who LOVES coffee, cutting out caffeine and then getting hit with the pregnancy insomnia has been the biggest challenge. It set in around 6 months and hasn’t gone away, but I keep telling myself it is preparing me for being up with Baby J when he arrives 😉
What is one thing you find beautiful about being pregnant?
I love having a belly and watching it grow! I’ve always loved seeing my friends and family when they were pregnant and couldn’t wait to have a belly myself. Seeing and feeling the baby move is indescribable, and such a special thing just between baby and mommy. I know I will miss it!
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant?
We often hear the negatives about being pregnant, and I think that is what I was preparing myself for. I tell friends who are pregnant that I have been so surprised at how good I’ve felt, and that it is possible to even feel BETTER while pregnant than before. I look at cutting out caffeine and some of the “off limits” food as a type of cleanse, and I can tell a difference in the way I feel. I would also say to enjoy this incredibly special time, because it goes quickly.
What are your beauty must-haves while pregnant?
I am a big fan of the Mama Mio product line and especially loved the Belly Rub Cream, Lucky Legs Cooling Gel, and Gorgeous Glow facial cleanser. Also, some good under eye concealer when the insomnia kicks in!!

Kind words about your photographer?
I knew the minute that I got out of the car and met Bethanne that we would connect. She is the sweetest person, and anyone who meets her will be able to tell that she truly gets joy from being able to capture special moments for others. Being a mom herself, I knew that she would do an incredible job capturing this special time in our lives. She made the session very easy and fun, with lots of laughs along the way. One of my closest friends connected me to Bethanne and told me that she thought we would hit it off- and she was right! I left the session feeling like I made a new friend. Bethanne’s energy and passion are contagious, and I left the session feeling so excited about seeing the images. None of this could have prepared me for when I first saw the photos, because even though I knew they would be beautiful, I was blown away. Bethanne has a very special gift for capturing moments like this, and we will treasure these photos forever!
When I began this business of mine, Bethanne Arthur Photography, I did not really know what to expect. I didn’t know back then about all of the wonderful people I would meet and all of the amazing memories that I was going to capture with my camera. I believe that documenting life’s greatest moments is so important, and that belief and passion all began when my son was born. I would always carry around my camera, shooting away to remember all of the little things…the firsts….the times that made my heart flutter! Fast forward a few years, I now have two children and am having a blast running my business, raising my two babies with my husband, and I hope to show them that all dreams are possible and anything can be achieved – even a business built from scratch while raising a family! While I specialize in couples and wedding photography, I absolutely adore babies and mamas-to-be! Lifestyle portraiture is something that sparked this whole thing – this dream of mine – so it will have always have a place in my heart! When I am not busy chasing around my son and my daughter with my camera, I enjoy reading, playing volleyball, and drinking a whole lot of coffee just to keep up with it all!

“Jess and Justin are expecting their first child – a baby boy! – soon, and I had the honor of documenting this incredibly beautiful and amazing time in their lives as they begin to transition from a family of two to a family of three. We have a mutual friend who initially connected us, and I am so glad that she did because Jess and Justin are such a wonderful couple, and I am so excited for them to welcome their sweet bundle so very soon!On the day of their shoot, we met at Antietam National Battlefield park in Sharpsburg, Maryland, and immediately I knew this would be a killer shoot because Jess stepped out in the stunning, teal maternity gown from Sew Trendy Accessories. I had seen these dresses before on different photographers’ social media pages and websites, but I had never had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful mama-to-be in one of these popular dresses before! Until now of course! Not only did Jess rock this gorgeous teal maternity gown, but she also wore a beautiful and lush floral crown, created by one of my favorite florists in the DMV area – Lauren with So Lovely Weddings and Blooms. I love how the purple and teal pop and compliment each other so perfectly! And Justin was looking pretty sharp that day, too!Working with these two was so much fun, and I felt like I walked away with two new good friends. They kept me laughing, they rocked their poses like no other, and I absolutely love the magic that happened that day! Jess was just glowing, and I am just so happy that they wanted me to be a part of their lives in this way and create some special and priceless memories for them. These photos will hang on the walls of their home; they will be placed in frames to sit on mantles and be wrapped for grandparents afar. Their baby boy will see these photos one day, and he will be able to see how beautiful his mother was while carrying him.”
